Say Goodbye To Toxic People Shouting Racial Slurs
Ubisoft is taking its ban system up a not starting next week and will target people using homophobic and racial slurs in particular. It seems like they are taking the matter very seriously, as it mentions that the ban will last for 2, 7 or 15 days. The worst offenders will be banned permanently, they said in a Reddit post.
According to Ubisoft, each incident will taken a look at on a ‘case by case basis. The new system will automatically be able to identify hate speech towards a person. At least, that’s what it looks like since a company representative said that the system won’t be “reliant on user reports”.
That doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t report things when you see them, however. Ubisoft did mention that the reports will cause a faster resolution and players sending any evidence pointing to toxic behavior in the past will be useful as well. This means that can still be banned for toxic behavior committed a while ago. As with all of the ban systems, users will also be able to appeal ban.
The company’s code of conduct forbids “any language or content deemed illegal, dangerous, threatening, abusive, obscene, vulgar, defamatory, hateful, racist, sexist, ethically offensive or constituting harassment”.
Ubisoft stressed that the system will not target simple trash talk. “We understand that it is a competitive game and there will be some degree of trash talking/’swear words’ used. We are expecting people not to take it too far with slurs and hate speech. We’re really focusing on slurs, homophobic language, and similarly offensive toxicity,” it said.
