Bungie Gives An Explanation For The Same, You Be The Judge
The successor to one of the most popular games of all time, Destiny 2 has recently gotten some really upset and angry opinions from players over the fact that shaders, which are items used to re-color your gear, are only available as a consumable. The previous game allowed you to use the shader as many times as you would want, whereas this time around you’ll need to find the same shader multiple times if you were to change the color of multiple items to the same shader. Also, the fact that you can buy shaders with real-world money puts a very strong pointer that the decision might have been made with a pecuniary motive.
Luke Smith, the director of the game, responds to the question in a series of tweets, the main one being:
Shaders are earned through gameplay: leveling, chests, engrams, vendors. We expect you’ll be flush w/ Shaders as you continue to play. (1/4)

“Shaders are now an ongoing reward for playing. Customization will inspire gameplay. Each planet has unique armor and shader rewards. With D2, we want statements like, ‘I want to run the Raid, Trials, or go back to Titan to get more of its Shader’ to be possible.” He adds.
It shouldn’t come off as a surprise that some, if not a lot of folks will still hold a negative opinion towards the decision, especially after considering that they have added made it available as a microtransaction.
